Fatal Runaway
A Boyle Heights man was killed Tuesday when his big-rig truck rolled over him and careened down a steep hill in Boyle Heights.
Zenon J. Duran, 32, had parked the truck on a steep part of City Terrace Drive and had placed three bricks against the left front tire as a precautionary measure, said California Highway Patrol spokesman Lou Gutierrez. Just before 8 a.m., the man started his truck and was removing the bricks when the truck rolled over him.
The truck cab and its 25-foot trailer rolled for 420 feet down Wabash Street before jumping a curb and crashing into an apartment building. Henry Porro, who lived in the apartment, was taking his wife to work at the time.
Duran was dead on arrival at County-USC Medical Center. No one else was injured, Gutierrez said.
