SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO : City OKs Land Swap for Los Rios Acreage
The City Council took a step toward finding a new home for Solag Disposal Co. on Tuesday by unanimously agreeing to exchange six acres along San Juan Creek for Solag’s two-acre storage yard in the historic Los Rios district.
However, the council did not give permission for Solag to move its trucks, cars and dumpsters to the creekside property. City officials said they would lobby the Board of Supervisors to allow Solag’s fleet to move to the Prima Deshecha site off Ortega Highway.
The agreement between the Community Redevelopment Agency and Solag owner Tom Trulis calls for the agency to pay Trulis $1.05 million for the Los Rios site. In turn, Trulis would pay $1 million for the acreage along San Juan Creek and the first $450,000 of the bill for cleaning up the Los Rios site.
City officials can now implement a longstanding plan to build a historical park on the property.
