Allied-Signal Files Trade Action: After an unsuccessful 10-year effort to sell its amorphous metal alloys in Japan, Allied-Signal has turned to the U.S. government for assistance. In its private 301 petition with the U.S. Trade Representative, the Morris Township, N.J., company said the Japanese government and industry have “targeted” the amorphous metal alloys, which are used in electric transformers, for exclusive development by Japan. A company spokesman said Allied-Signal has spent more than $10 million in its attempt to crack the $100-million Japanese market.
