Arcadia : Agency Votes to Buy 2 Lots

The Arcadia Redevelopment Agency on Tuesday voted 4 to 0 to acquire two properties on the northwest corner of Huntington Drive and Second Avenue.

The agency is composed of members of the City Council. Councilman Dennis Lojeski, a dentist with an office within the redevelopment area, did not vote because of possible conflict of interest.

Margaret Torres’ home and Eugene Wingard’s cabinet business were condemned after the owners and the city deadlocked on price negotiations. Torres had rejected the agency’s offer of $210,000 for her 8,000-square-foot lot on Wheeler Avenue. Wingard, who was asking $800,000 for his 7,500-square-foot property on Second Avenue, had rejected the agency’s latest offer of about $265,000.

The agency, which has condemned three other properties west of Second Avenue since December, plans to develop a commercial center at the site.
