ON THE TOWN: Fishbone isn’t actually recording its new album live. But the band did the next best thing during its trio of headlining shows at the Roxy this week. Playing an entire set of 13 new songs (with a mobile recording unit outside for the final two shows), the band crowd-tested its fresh material before hitting the studio next month. If Monday night’s show was any indicator, the band hasn’t lost its rabid legions of fans, who slam-danced and catapulted across each other’s shoulders all night long. Sweaty and largely topless (with singer/sax player Angelo Moore sporting a bleached dread-hawk ‘do), the band ripped through such rowdy new tunes as “Kingpin,” “What Are You Trying to Say? (Housework),” “Fishy Swa Ska,” “Baby Head” and (our personal fave) “Everyday Sunshine,” a Sly-style pop tune with a gospel climax. . . . Meanwhile, Tone Loc’s 24th birthday bash went even later that same night at Spice, the hip Hollywood Boulevard hangout that is hotly competing with the China Club for wee-hours celebrity pop talent. On hand to help celebrate were Eazy-E, King T, Def Jef, Ice-T, Doctor Dre and members of N.W.A, Public Enemy and the Bus Boys. But the real center of attention was Loc’s risque birthday cake, which was in the shape--to quote one celebrant--of a “chocolate Jessica Hahn,” adorned with with his trademark “Wild Thing” logo. . . . And if you were at Aerosmith’s Monday show at the Forum, you saw Axl Rose hop up on stage and help Steven Tyler sing his band’s golden-oldie, “Mama Kin.”
