DePaul Keeps Tournament Hopes Alive With 64-59 Victory Over Notre Dame
ROSEMONT, Ill. — David Booth scored 26 points, including his team’s first 14, to lead DePaul to a 64-59 victory over Notre Dame Saturday.
DePaul (18-14) and Notre Dame (16-12), both independents, are seeking at-large berths for the NCAA tournament. The tournament pairings will be announced today.
The victory was the second this season for DePaul against Notre Dame. The Blue Demons also beat the Irish for the sixth time in seven games at the Rosemont Horizon.
Notre Dame led, 27-22, at halftime, but DePaul took a 50-41 advantage midway through the second half on the strength of the three-point shooting of Booth and Chuckie Murphy.
Keith Robinson, who had 20 points for Notre Dame, led a rally that brought the Irish to within three points. But Terry Davis’ three-point shot and a pair of free throws by James Hamby put DePaul ahead, 60-51.
Booth and teammate Melvon Foster each sank a pair of free throws in the closing seconds after Notre Dame again pulled to within three points with a minute remaining.
