HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Coleman Runs Hitless Streak to 14 Innings

Orange Glen pitcher Scott Coleman combined with Jim Roby to throw a two-hitter, and the Patriots defeated Kearny, 13-1, in the Warhawk baseball tournament Saturday.

Coleman, a left-hander, came on in relief and struck out eight over the final three innings, extending his no-hit streak to 14 innings. He pitched four no-hit innings against Mar Vista and a complete-game no-hitter against San Dieguito in his previous two appearances. He has 27 strikeouts in that stretch.

Roby (2-0) picked up the victory for the Patriots, who got three hits apiece from Mike Russ (three RBIs), Damon Vinje (two RBIs) and Brian Kooiman, who homered.

In other Warhawk tournament games:

Mira Mesa 10, Castle Park 0--Junior Mike Bovee (2-0) pitched a one-hitter and allowed only two base runners for the Marauders (5-0).

Valhalla 8, Vista 4--Valhalla’s Greg Woodard went three for four with two RBIs and a homer, Rob Reid went three for three with an RBI and Tavo Carrillo was two for four with an RBI. John Lynn went the distance for Valhalla (2-3).

Bonita Vista 3, San Dieguito 1--Mike Wazal went two for three, drove in a run, made a run-saving catch and threw out another runner at home plate from center field to lead the Barons.

Serra 9, Mar Vista 2--Shawn Wilson was two for four, including a bases-empty home run, as Serra (4-1) scored all its runs in the first four innings.

Monte Vista 8, Point Loma 1--Monte Vista (4-1) scored five runs in the first with two outs, including Darren Rucker’s two-run homer. Point Loma fell to 1-4.

Patrick Henry 13, Hoover 6--Scott Arlin went four-plus innings to pick up the victory for Patrick Henry. Hoover fell to 1-4.

Sweetwater 15, Mount Miguel 0--The Red Devils (5-0) pounded out 16 hits against the Matadors (1-4).

Crawford tournament

Crawford 10, Christian 2--Dean Rojas went one for two with three RBIs and scored a run and Keith Clayman went two for three with three RBIs for Crawford (2-0). Christian fell to 0-3.

University City 4, Morse 1--Jay Parmenter threw five innings and struck five to pick up the victory. Pat Cottrell was two for three with two RBIs and a double for University (1-1). Morse fell to 2-1.

La Jolla 10, Clairemont 0--La Jolla (2-1) scored eight runs in the fourth inning and held on for the victory at home. Clairemont is 1-2.

Hilltop-Moose tournament

Hilltop 5, USDHS 2--Paul Stojsavljevic had two doubles, and Johnny Garibay added a hit and three RBIs for Hilltop (2-1).

Escondido 16, St. Augustine 4--Mitch Anderson and Jerry Singleton each homered and drove in three runs for the Cougars (1-2).

Mt. Carmel 3, El Capitan 0--After five consecutive strikeouts, back-to-back home runs by Andy Owen and Matt Miller broke the game open and helped make a winner of Doug Hill (2-0).

Poway 7, San Marcos 1--Brock Marsh doubled in Poway’s first two runs and then added a bases-empty home run in the third. Rob Plarski had a two-run homer for Poway (1-0-1) in the sixth.

Helix 3, Granite Hills 1--Helix (1-1-1) pulled off a double steal in the fifth inning, producing what turned out to be the winning run. Helix’s Rob Ippolito had men on second and third with one out in the seventh but escaped to pick up the save. Granite Hills is 2-1.

Chula Vista 5, Mission Bay 4--Donnie Edwards and Art Castro had bases-empty homers for Chula Vista (2-1). Mission Bay fell to 1-2.

GMC tournament

Santana 19, Parker 2--Ferdie Hollis had three hits and four RBIs, and Chad Berry had three hits and three RBIs for Santana (3-0).

El Cajon 10, Lincoln 8--David Espinoza made a diving back-handed stop behind second base with two outs and the bases loaded and forced the Lincoln runner at second to end the game. Mike Stadler was two for three, including a two-run homer for ECV (2-1). Lincoln fell to 3-1.

Southwest 18, CETYS 3--Enrique Gurrola had two triples and three RBIs, and Victor Caracoza hit a three-run triple for Southwest (1-2).

Montgomery 14, La Jolla Country Day 4--La Jolla Country Day (1-2) committed eight errors against Montgomery (3-0).
