NATION : 30 Hurt in Amtrak Derailment

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — A freight train hit an Amtrak train carrying 471 passengers from Miami to New York early today, derailing five passenger cars and slightly injuring at least 30 people, authorities said.
The Amtrak Silver Meteor was preparing to leave the Rocky Mount station just before 1:30 a.m. when it was rear-ended by a slow-moving CSX work train pulling 96 freight cars, said Amtrak spokeswoman Pat Duricka in Washington.
