OXNARD : Panel to Consider Housing Project
A controversial 454-unit housing development and commercial center proposed for 77 acres near the corner of Oxnard Boulevard and Gonzales Road is set for action by the Oxnard Planning Commission today.
Some city officials have expressed concern that some lots of the Riviera project, planned by Warmington Homes of Agoura Hills, would be too small, creating a “crowded look,” said Richard Maggio, Oxnard’s community development director. Earlier plans for an apartment complex were opposed by nearby residents, Maggio said.
If approved, the first houses in the project would be available in 1992.
The Riviera would be built near an existing neighborhood.
As part of the project, Gonzales Road would be widened from two lanes to four between Oxnard Boulevard and Rose Avenue.
Discussion of the issue--as well as a hearing on the city’s updated General Plan--is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. in the City Council chambers, 305 W. Third St.
