LOCAL : Man Wounded in Garden Grove
A busboy at a Korean restaurant in Garden Grove was left paralyzed from the neck down when a shot fired during a late-night robbery attempt struck him in the face, police said today.
Margarito Alvarado, 25, address unknown, was listed in fair condition at UCI Medical Center in Orange, a hospital spokesman said.
The robber, armed with an unknown type of gun, entered the Mihoo Restaurant, 9735 Garden Grove Blvd., at 11:25 p.m. Wednesday, just before closing time, Garden Grove Police Sgt. Ken Whitley said.
When the robber opened fire, “everybody tried to flee and this one guy got hit,” Whitley said. The gunman left empty-handed, he said.
Doctors do not know if Alvarado’s paralysis will be permanent, Tardiff said.
The gunman is described as a thin male in his late 20s, about 5 feet, 7 inches tall, with black hair and brown eyes.
