Extremists Threaten to Kill 3 U.S. Hostages
BEIRUT — A Muslim extremist group that claims to hold three American professors hostage threatened Thursday to kill them if the United States fails to meet its unspecified demands.
The Islamic Jihad for the Liberation of Palestine, which is believed to be made up of Shiite Muslim zealots loyal to Iran, also vowed to attack airlines carrying Soviet Jews to Israel. It made the threats in a statement delivered to the newspaper An Nahar.
The statement came with a photo of Robert Polhill, one of three Americans kidnaped from Beirut University College in 1987. The others are Alann Steen and Jesse Turner.
