Speaking of feeling left out:

“Casting directors are the only ones of those billed in the main titles of films who are not recognized by the academy as an award category,” complains David Rubin, a member of the board of directors of the Casting Society of America.

CSA president Mike Fenton adds: “From our point of view, we deserve some kind of recognition that we’ve made a significant contribution to the film production process. I’d be happy with a plaque-- something.

But, so far, meetings with the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences have proved fruitless. “We’ve been turned down at every turn,” Fenton moans.

Recognition in TV--in the form of an Emmy for casting--gives Fenton hope that “we’re getting closer.” But he feels that casting directors--who have no union, and traditionally little clout--will need the strong support of film directors before the Academy responds.
