RJR Denies Product Line Sale: RJR Nabisco denied that it is considering selling its A1 steak sauce and Grey Poupon mustard lines to H. J. Heinz Co. Heinz spokesman Ted Smyth had said earlier that the two food makers were discussing a possible deal. Heinz already produces barbecue sauce under its Heinz 57 label and also manufactures mustard. But David Kalis, senior vice president of RJR Nabisco, called the report “categorically untrue.” RJR Nabisco has been selling selected assets to reduce its debt load since it was bought out last year by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. for $24.53 billion in the largest takeover ever.
