State Takes Over Thriftco Insurance: A Los Angeles Superior Court judge Tuesday granted a request by the state to take over Thriftco Insurance Co., a Los Angeles auto insurance concern that the state Insurance Commissioner’s office found insolvent. The company surrendered its state license on March 1. Judge David Yaffe appointed the state as conservator and set an April 12 hearing date to determine whether the company should be liquidated.
