HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL : San Marcos Rides Morton’s Home Run to Victory
Eric Morton’s solo home run in the third inning gave the San Marcos baseball team a 3-1 lead and provided the winning run in the Knights 3-2 nonleague victory over visiting Hood River Valley (Ore.) on Monday afternoon.
Hood River Valley is the defending 2-A state champion and will play Mt. Carmel today at 3 p.m. and Granite Hills later in the week.
Morton was two for three and drove in two runs. San Marcos improved to 4-3. Hood River evened it record at 1-1.
Oceanside 7, Milwaukee (Ore.) 3--For Oceanside, Mel Douglas was two for four and Kenya Hunt went two for three. Oceanside improved to 5-2-1. Milwaukee (4-1) dropped its first game of the season. Milwaukee meets Fallbrook today at 3:15 p.m..
Santana 8, Carlsbad 5--Chad Barry hit a grand slam home run in the seventh inning to cap a six-run seventh inning for Santana (7-0). Santana trailed, 5-2 going into the inning. For Santana Drake Welch was two for two with a triple and Ross Piper went two for three and doubled.
