HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : El Camino Real Routs Granada Hills in Softball

El Camino Real High’s softball team showed its muscle Tuesday, whipping Granada Hills, 13-1, in a Northwest Valley Conference opener at El Camino Real.

The Conquistadores (9-1) collected 18 hits while senior right-hander Chrissy Peck (9-1) allowed only one. In logging her third one-hitter, Peck struck out seven and walked one.

El Camino Real’s Alisha Knopf was three for four with two home runs and four runs batted in, and Jenny Fleming was two for four with an RBI. Peck was four for four and scored four runs.

In other softball games:

San Fernando 16, Canoga Park 1--Denise Mendoza went the distance for San Fernando in a Northwest Valley Conference opener at Canoga Park.

Taft 6, Kennedy 5--Melissa Belgrade’s one-out single scored Michele Gardner from second base for the winning run in the bottom of the seventh of a Northwest Valley Conference opener at Taft.

Sylmar 12, Grant 2--Sophomore right-hander Krystina Moore (4-1) pitched a two-hitter with 14 strikeouts as the host Spartans (7-1 overall) won their Valley Pac-8 Conference opener.

North Hollywood 11, Van Nuys 4--Jennifer Rothstein (4-2) went the distance for North Hollywood in a Valley Pac-8 opener at Van Nuys.

North Hollywood (4-2) received multiple-hit games from Aliza Rudy (two for four, two RBIs), Teresa Estrada (two for three, three runs scored) and Lynn Lampert (three for six).

Birmingham 11, Poly 3--Marlene Gonzales (4-0) went the distance for Birmingham in a Valley Pac-8 Conference opener at Birmingham.

Simi Valley 2, Royal 1--Taina Tande drove in the winning run on a groundout in the third inning of the Marmonte League game at Simi Valley.

La Reina 16, Moorpark 0--Sheri Sisco pitched a no-hitter and drove in three runs in a Tri-Valley League opener at La Reina.

Oak Park 11, Carpinteria 0--Wendy Wootton (4-1) fired a two-hitter, homered and scored two runs in a Tri-Valley League opener at Carpinteria.

Saugus 3, Notre Dame 0--Saugus scored all of its runs in the third inning, including two on a throwing error by catcher Simona Errico, in a nonleague game at Saugus.

Quartz Hill 6, Santa Paula 4--Julie Coert went two for three with a home run, triple and three RBIs, but it wasn’t enough for host Santa Paula (2-3) in a nonleague game.

Agoura 15, Westlake 9--Melissa Thatcher was four for five with two doubles and pitched a three-hitter in a nonleague game at Agoura.

Hoover 9, Burroughs 2--Nancy Evans struck out 10 and pitched a four-hitter in a nonleague game. Hoover is 9-0.

Montclair Prep 8, Oakwood 5--Shanna Hernandez yielded 10 walks but struck out 12 while pitching a one-hitter for Montclair Prep in a nonleague game at home.

Village Christian 6, Pasadena 1--Senior Lea Blankenship struck out 12 en route to a one-hitter in a nonleague game at home.

L.A. Lutheran 7, Pioneer Baptist 2--Raynee Schaumann hit two doubles, went three for three, scored two runs and drove in two more to lead L.A. Lutheran (4-0) to a nonleague win at home.

VOLLEYBALL

Campbell Hall d. St. Monica, 15-7, 15-5, 15-4--Will Fruehling had 18 kills to lead Campbell Hall (5-3) to a Camino Real League win at St. Monica.

Nordhoff d. Ventura, 15-7, 15-7, 15-13--Kevin Cochrane had 19 kills to lead Nordhoff (5-1) to a nonleague win at home.

Hart d. Calabasas, 15-5, 15-5, 15-5--Jon Flaig had seven kills and Brent Liescheidt added six kills for Hart (4-2) in a nonleague match at Calabasas.

GOLF

Hart 194, Notre Dame 212--Hart’s Mike Miller, a junior, eagled the par-5 second hole and recorded two birdies en route to a three-under-par 32 in a nonleague match at Lakeside Country Club.

Jason Gore, a sophomore, shot even-par 35 for Hart (5-1). Mike Calczynski shot a team-low 37 for Notre Dame (8-1).
