SHORT TAKES : Music Is Business, Says Jagger
Singer Mick Jagger said there’s nothing wrong with the Rolling Stones taking commercial sponsorship for their first European tour in eight years because, “We are all in a business in one way or another.”
Jagger spoke at a news conference Thursday announcing the 12-country tour.
Asked why the tour needed the sponsorship of a U.S. beer company, Jagger told reporters: “We are all in a business in one way or another. We’ve got sponsorship and you have got advertising. I don’t even remember a time when it was amateur.”
The tour starts in the Netherlands on May 18 and includes dates in Austria, Britain, Denmark, France, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and West Germany.
Rolling Stones publicist Bernard Doherty said more than 150,000 tickets were sold within hours for two London concerts at Wembley Stadium, and a third Wembley show is being organized to meet the demand.
