Koch’s Paramount Role
A March 16 story said Joe Roth’s becoming chairman of 20th Century Fox Films was the “first time a director has run a major studio in more than half a century.” My boss, Howard W. Koch, directed his first film in 1954 (and has produced and directed many since) before becoming the head of Paramount Studios in 1964. After two years he went back to producing and directing and is still doing the same.
Monday at the Academy Awards show Mr. Koch will receive the prestigious Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.
