Worker Hurt on Housing Project Wins $5.7 Million
A Los Angeles Superior Court jury returned a $5.7-million verdict Friday in favor of a 26-year-old Korean immigrant who was seriously burned on a city housing project job in August, 1985.
Jurors deliberated two and a half days after a three-week trial in awarding damages to John Chung Dai Choi against the Los Angeles Housing Authority and the Park Son Man Construction Co.
Choi’s lawyer, Michael Piuze, said his client was working for a subcontractor to the construction firm at the William Mead Apartments, near Union Station, when sparks ignited a container of gasoline and Choi suffered burns over 55% of his body.
