San Diego
A San Diego crewman on a Seattle-based fishing vessel that sank in the Bering Sea has little chance of surviving the Arctic waters, the Coast Guard said Friday.
Nello Marciel, 55, was still missing Friday after the 162-foot Aleutian Enterprise rolled over and sank about 1 p.m. Thursday, 60 miles south of St. Paul Island, according to the Coast Guard in Juneau, Ala.
There were 22 survivors. A Coast Guard cargo plane searched on Thursday until dark for the 10 missing crewmen, said Chief Ed Moreth.
He said that nine fishing vessels were still searching Friday, but chances of survival in the 30-degree water are “very remote.”
The Coast Guard is investigating.
