Lancaster Couple Die in Motorcycle Accident
Two Lancaster residents were fatally injured when their motorcycle was struck head-on by a car that had swerved to avoid a chair in the road, the California Highway Patrol reported.
James McCathron, 57, who was driving the motorcycle, was killed instantly in the accident that occurred at 6:15 p.m. Thursday in the 200 block of East Avenue J in Lancaster, said Officer Miguel Siordia. His wife, Patricia McCathron, 59, suffered major injuries and died a short time later at Antelope Valley Medical Center, the CHP said.
The motorcycle was hit by a westbound car driven by Elizabeth Belanger, 36, of Edwards, who suffered only minor injuries. The CHP said Belanger swerved to avoid a plastic chair in the road and did not see the oncoming motorcycle.
No charges were filed, and officers said the accident is under investigation.
