Nation IN BRIEF : ALASKA : Redoubt Volcano Spews Ash, Steam
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Redoubt Volcano erupted again, sending a plume of ash and steam 35,000 feet high, but the ash blew toward the sparsely populated Alaska Peninsula, the Alaska Volcano Observatory reported. The early morning eruption by the 10,197-foot mountain 110 miles southwest of Anchorage lasted about 10 minutes, geologist Michael Doukas said. The mountain continued to steam after that and the plume was visible from Anchorage. Redoubt Volcano has been erupting at least once a week for almost two months since bursting to life last Dec. 14.
