BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Faddoul Pitches Perfect Game; Kennedy Defeats Bolsa Grande, 3-0
Brian Faddoul pitched a perfect game and Kennedy High School defeated Bolsa Grande, 3-0, in a Garden Grove League baseball game Friday at Kennedy.
Faddoul, a junior right-hander, struck out eight, had only two three-ball counts and raised his record to 3-1. Shortstop Rod Rosales made an over-the-shoulder catch with one out in the seventh to save the perfect game.
Kennedy (4-5, 2-0 in league) scored twice in the first on a wild pitch and a forceout after Craig Roah and Rosales hit back-to-back singles.
It was the second perfect game in Kennedy’s school history. The first was thrown last season by Greg Hansell, who pitches in the Red Sox organization.
Bolsa Grande is 2-5-1, 0-2.
In other Garden Grove League games:
Los Amigos 5, Garden Grove 4--Jeff Vonnahme scored on a wild pitch with two outs in the fifth to break a 4-4 tie for host Los Amigos. John Morgan had a two-run triple and Vonnahme added an RBI single for Los Amigos. Bill Speer (1-0) pitched a complete game for Los Amigos (3-6, 2-0).
La Quinta 9, Rancho Alamitos 2--Walter Dawkins had two hits, scored twice and had four RBIs and Duane Gleason had two hits and scored twice for host La Quinta (8-3, 2-0).
Santiago 7, Pacifica 6--Sip Cruz scored on a squeeze by Ed Castaneda in the fifth inning to give Santiago (8-4, 2-0) the lead. Pacifica’s Raul Banuelos hit a two-home run in the fourth and Chris Shockley hit a two-run home run in the fifth.
In the Sea View League:
Estancia 10, Newport Harbor 0--Jeff DeSandro had three hits, including a triple, scored three runs and drove in a run for visiting Estancia (6-3, 2-1). Colby French added two hits and two RBIs and Cody Rodman (3-1) pitched a one-hitter.
Saddleback 8, University 1--Ramiro Garcia had two hits, including a two-run home run, for host Saddleback (6-3, 2-1). Robert Reyes (2-1) allowed five hits and an unearned run in seven innings.
Tustin 12, Corona del Mar 2--Shawn Green had four hits and two RBIs and Ryan Relph had two hits and an RBI for host Tustin (8-1, 3-0). Corona del Mar committed seven errors.
In the Orange League:
Brea-Olinda 3, Savanna 2-- John Lynn (3-0) pitched the last 2 2/3 innings for the victory and had the game-winning hit for host Brea-Olinda (6-4-1, 1-1-1). Lynn doubled with one out in the sixth to drive in Greg Brunet, who had walked. Lynn also gave up a solo home run to Steve Devinney.
In the Pacific Coast League:
Orange 5, Costa Mesa 2--Jeff Peterson had two doubles and an RBI for host Orange (3-6, 2-1). Ruben Hernandez (2-1) pitched five innings and had seven strikeouts for Orange. John Martinolich, who relieved Hernandez with the bases loaded and none out in the sixth, got a strikeout and a double play to end the inning.
Woodbridge 10, Trabuco Hills 6--Justin Drizos had a two-run home run and Tim Kingsbury had a single, double and triple with one RBI for host Woodbridge (5-2, 2-1). Trabuco Hills is 6-1, 2-1.
Laguna Hills 3, Laguna Beach 2 (9 innings)--Ted Wilkes scored on a fielder’s choice in the ninth inning for visiting Laguna Hills. Reynolds had three hits and Matt Maffei had two hits and an RBI for Laguna Hills (6-4, 3-0). Kevin Lovingier (5-0) struck out six in 2 1/3 innings ofrelief for the victory.
In the Olympic League:
Whittier Christian 16, Capistrano Valley Christian 2--Scott Jordan, Brent Tucker and David Zamorano had home runs and Steve Little (1-1) pitched 6 1/3 innings, striking out 15, for visiting Whittier Christian (6-1, 2-0).
Valley Christian 7, Santa Margarita 4--Dave Nix, Trevor Yankoff and Matt Stewart had two hits each for host Santa Margarita (3-4, 0-2).
In the Century League:
Foothill 2, Villa Park 0--Kent Donnelly pitched a six-hitter, struck out 15 and walked five, and drove in both runs with a bases-loaded single in the third for host Foothill (5-4, 2-1).
Canyon 5, Santa Ana Valley 1--Greg Tippin (1-2) pitched a seven-hitter, striking out nine, for visiting Canyon (4-5, 3-0).
In the Freeway League:
Sunny Hills 10, La Habra 0--Richard Orr pitched a two-hitter and struck out nine for host Sunny Hills (5-5, 2-1).
