Top players: Ken Calvert, Estancia; Paul Hinkle, Estancia; Austin Maki, Estancia; Albert Oh, Sunny Hills; Scott Richardson, Dana Hills; Richard Son, Sunny Hills; Chris Tidland, Valencia.

Notes: Estancia, the defending Southern Section champion, has its top three players back but started slowly. Led by seniors Calvert and Maki and sophomore Hinkle, the Sea View player of the year last year, the Eagles (4-1) lost to Long Beach Millikan and are trailing Dana Hills after nine holes at Estancia’s home course, Mesa Verde CC. But the Eagles shot 178, their low score of the season, and defeated Corona del Mar Thursday at Newport Beach CC.
Dana Hills (5-1) was upset by South Coast League rival Capistrano Valley Thursday at Marbella CC. El Niguel, Dana Hills’ home course, is the site of the Southern Section southern regionals, from which three teams qualify for the Southern Section team championships.
Maki of Estancia has decided to attend Arizona on a golf scholarship and the Eagles’ coaches made a promotional video to show off Calvert.
