SHORT TAKES : Mudd Given Journalism Award
Roger Mudd, congressional correspondent for PBS’ “MacNeil-Lehrer News Hour,” Thursday night was named winner of the fifth annual Joan Barone Award for distinguished journalism and excellence in Washington-based national affairs-public affairs reporting.
The award, which includes a $2,000 cash prize, was announced Thursday night at the 46th annual Radio and Television Correspondents Association dinner, held at the Washington Hilton. Only RTCA members are eligible for the award.
Mudd, the former CBS and NBC anchor, was honored for his “MacNeil-Lehrer News Hour” report on “How Congress missed the HUD scandal.”
This year’s judges were Bruce Morton of CBS News, Christie Basham of NBC News and Jim Snyder, vice president, Post-Newsweek Stations.
The Joan Barone Award was established in 1985 to honor the late executive producer of CBS News’ “Face the Nation,” who died of cancer in March of that year.
