BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Laguna Hills Scores Twice in 11th to Defeat Woodbridge, 3-2
Ted Wilkes doubled in two runs in the bottom of the 11th inning to give Laguna Hills High School a 3-2 victory over Woodbridge in a Pacific Coast League baseball game Friday.
Woodbridge scored a run in the top of the inning to take a 2-1 lead.
In other Pacific Coast League games:
Trabuco Hills 5, Orange 4--Ryan Meredith hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to score the winning run for Trabuco Hills (7-2, 3-2 in league).
Laguna Beach 7, Costa Mesa 2--Aaron Scheid (1-2) struck out 12 and drove in a run for host Laguna Beach. Mike Brown hit a two-run home run in the sixth for the Artists.
In the Academy League:
Liberty Christian 10, St. Margaret’s 3--Chris Buckels (3-0) struck out 18, breaking his school record of 17, and allowed two hits and two walks for host Liberty Christian (9-4, 2-0).
In the Century League:
El Modena 4, Santa Ana Valley 1--Gavin Brown, Oscar Vasquez and Jay McGrath each had doubles in the second inning as El Modena scored three times at home. Jason Schade pitched a four-hitter for the Vanguards (4-5, 2-3).
Villa Park 2, Santa Ana 1--Danny Strapp scored Mike Stevens on a groundout and James Hong scored Aaron Boone with an infield single as Villa Park took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third. Todd Blyleven (3-1) allowed four hits, struck out five and walked five for Villa Park (6-3, 2-3).
Foothill 5, Canyon 5 (8 innings, darkness)--Brian Palluck drove in two runs in the top of the seventh to tie the score for Foothill. Canyon led, 5-1, in the sixth inning before Foothill scored four in two innings. Palluck went three for three.
In the Freeway League:
Troy 11, Fullerton 6--With the bases loaded in the sixth inning, center fielder Brandon Avey made a diving catch in right-center field, got up and threw to second for a double play to end the inning and preserve an 8-6 Troy lead. Ryan Helmle had two hits and three RBIs for Troy (2-5, 2-3).
Sunny Hills 13, Sonora 3--Ryan Frace went three for four with three RBIs and visiting Sunny Hills (6-6) scored nine runs in the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie.
In the Olympic League:
Orange Lutheran 7, Capistrano Valley Christian 2--Todd Dudley had two home runs and five RBIs to lead visiting Orange Lutheran (7-3, 3-1).
Whitney 8, Santa Margarita 0--Harry Kim drove in five runs to lead host Whitney (5-5, 2-2).
In the Orange League:
Brea-Olinda 10, Valencia 2--Chad Marlow had three hits, including a first-inning solo home run, and three RBIs to lead visiting Brea-Olinda (7-5-1, 2-2-1).
In the Sea View League:
Tustin 5, Saddleback 3--Jim Reider had two hits, including a leadoff home run in the first inning, to lead host Tustin (10-1, 5-0). Ben Munoz had a two-run home run in the third inning.
University 3, Newport Harbor 2--Brian Vail (2-1) pitched a six-hitter, striking out two and walking two, to lead host University (6-5, 2-3). Brian Smith singled home Billy Thompson in the bottom of the seventh. Newport Harbor is 3-8, 1-4.
Estancia 6, Corona del Mar 5 (8 innings)--Cody Rodman’s two-out single scored Paul McDaniels in the top of the eighth inning to lead Estancia (3-2 in league).
In the South Coast League:
Mission Viejo 4, San Clemente 2--Don Disbro hit a two-run home run in the first inning and Rob Gattis hit a two-run home run in the sixth to lead visiting Mission Viejo (5-3-2, 3-1-1).
Irvine 2, Dana Hills 1--Mike Seal had two hits and one RBI to lead host Irvine (7-5, 4-1).
El Toro 4, Capistrano Valley 1--Bo Haley hit two home runs to lead host El Toro (7-5, 3-2). Capistrano Valley is 2-6-1, 0-4-1.
In the Sunset League:
Edison 8, Westminster 7--Edison (7-4, 2-3) scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to win. With one out, Steve Phobe singled and Rocky Balch tripled to right-center field to tie the score. One out later, Darren Brink singled in Balch. Westminster is 1-4 in league.
Ocean View 5, Marina 4--Kevin Bill hit a two-run triple in the seventh to give Ocean View a one-run lead. Marina loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh but didn’t score. Duane Page (5-0) pitched 1 1/3 innings to earn the victory. Gil Gonzalez, John Arnold and Mikah Edwardson each had two hits for Ocean View (10-2, 5-0).
In nonleague play:
Garden Grove Claremont 14, Coutin 3--Bob Tipton, Brian Wetsch and Pat Dodd each homered to lead visiting Claremont (8-0). Coutin is 4-4.
