The Bolshoi and Kirov Go Corporate: The Entertainment Corp. U.S.A., an international preforming arts presentation company, announced in New York on Tuesday that it had negotiated separate six-year exclusive agreements with the Bolshoi Theatre of Moscow and the Kirov Theatre of Leningrad, and Gosconcerts, the Soviet state arts agency, to develop non-performance rights for the Kirov and the Bolshoi outside the Soviet Union. This allows the Entertainment Corp. U.S.A. to capitalize on the Bolshoi and Kirov names and cover related activities, such as merchandising and publishing. Under the agreement, the Soviets receive 60% of the profits. Said Victoria Charlton, co-founder and co-chairman of the corporation, “The money doesn’t go to the state, it goes to the theaters.”
