Cerritos : 203-Room Sheraton Hotel Opens in Towne Center
The 203-room Sheraton Hotel opened for business this week in Cerritos’ newest redevelopment area, the Towne Center located at Bloomfield Avenue and 183rd Street alongside the Artesia (91) Freeway.
A key element of the 65-acre redevelopment area, the new hotel is located beside the city’s arts center, which is now under construction. Eventually, as many as 19 office buildings and restaurants built by TransPacific Development Co. of Torrance will surround the hotel and arts center.
The $26-million, eight-story hotel features 21 suites, a restaurant and a lounge, as well as a banquet area called the Cerritos Room, which can accommodate 550 people for dinner and 850 for a reception.
It is Cerritos’ first hotel and is expected to swell city coffers by more than $500,000 a year in the first five years of operation. Under the redevelopment agreement, the hotel will pay Cerritos 5% of its room and banquet facility sales revenues, 2.5% on food and beverage sales and a 6% bed tax.
