Pico Rivera : Community Volunteer Worker Gets State Award
A 39-year-old Pico Rivera man has received a state award from the California Parks and Recreation Society for his dedication to community service.
Tommy Sanchez, who has been involved in volunteer work in Pico Rivera since he was a boy in the mid-1950s, was honored recently in Claremont at an annual awards dinner.
Sanchez has helped promote the local Boys Club, formed a city boxing program, organized the Pico Rivera Tennis Club, taught arts and crafts to Boy Scout troops, and served on the board of the city’s Parks and Recreation Commission.
The father of four children also is active with the Good Samaritans, a church group that prepares sandwiches for the homeless in Whittier and downtown Los Angeles.
