ORANGE : Gang Link Suspected in Drive-By Slaying
Sheriff’s investigators said Wednesday that a drive-by shooting that left one man dead and a boy wounded may have been gang-related.
Martin Lopez Rosiles, 19, of Santa Ana was shot in the upper torso Tuesday evening in El Modena, an unincorporated neighborhood surrounded by the city of Orange. He died a short time later.
A 17-year-old boy who was shot once in the arm was treated at the scene, said Lt. Richard J. Olson of the Sheriff’s Department.
The shooting occurred at 6:40 when a gray Honda sedan with four or five men inside drove in front of a home in the 18800 block of Vine Street, authorities said.
Vine Street residents said five or six shots were fired from the car at a group of people standing in front of the house. The car then sped away.
Olson declined to explain why investigators believe that the shooting was gang-related but said no suspects have been identified in the case.
