President Bush argues that his proposed aid package to Panama and Nicaragua will bring pressure on Fidel Castro to “democratize” Cuba.
Did it ever occur to anyone that a comparable aid package to Cuba might accomplish this goal more quickly?
Better yet, why not lift the embargo on travel to and trade with Cuba, and let them “democratize” themselves? Isn’t that the lesson to be learned from recent events in Eastern Europe?
