WORLD IN BRIEF : LIBYA : Kadafi Urges Release of Western Hostages

Libyan leader Moammar Kadafi said that foreign hostages and prisoners of conscience should be freed to mark the holy Muslim month of Ramadan, according to Libya’s media. Tripoli Radio quoted Kadafi as urging all Muslims holding innocent Western hostages to adhere to the teachings of Islam. During Ramadan, it is customary for rulers of Islamic countries to pardon prisoners to mark the holiday. Eight Americans are among Westerners being held hostage in Lebanon.
