THE SIDELINES : Cycling Union Chief Has Stroke
VALENCIA, Spain — International Cycling Union President Luis Puig Esteve suffered a stroke today and is in serious condition in La Fe Hospital, a hospital spokesman said.
Puig, 74, was conscious when he entered the hospital and remained alert, said the spokesman at La Fe Hospital, who asked not to be identified. The spokesman described Puig’s condition as “serious, but stable.”
A statement released by his doctors said Puig Esteve has an “internal brain hemorrhage and his prognosis is serious.”
Puig Esteve heads the world’s top cycling body and is the former head of the Spanish Cycling Federation.
