Jockey on Fire With 4 Wins at Hallandale
HALLANDALE, Fla. — Jockey Earlie Fires won four races Wednesday, including a 6 1/2-length romp aboard Big Pride in the $35,000 Davona Dale Stakes for 3-year-old fillies.
Big Pride, the 6-5 choice, was in front all the way, finishing seven furlongs in 1:26 and paying $4.40, $2.40 and $2.60. Crowned closed at even money and paid $2.40 and $2.20. Sonic Grey, a 45-1 horse, came from last to finish third, paying $3.40.
Big Pride, a Maryland-bred daughter of Bet Big, is owned by Carolyn Hine and Scott Savin. She has four victories in seven lifetime starts.
At Aqueduct in New York, Dr. Carrington ran to 1 3/4-length victory in Wednesday’s $45,000 Jaipur’s Gem Handicap. Argyle Lake, with Francisco Medero up, was an easy second in the field of five 3-year-olds and up, finishing 3 3/4 lengths ahead of Bravely Bold.
The win was the second in seven starts this year for Dr. Carrington, who covered six furlongs in 1:09 1/5.
