A look at upcoming events in LOS ANGELES COUNTY
BEACHFEST: Jazz and blues music, classic cars, comedy acts, an ugly dog contest, a celebrity car race and a chili cook-off will be featured at the ninth annual Beachfest, presented by Beach Charities. Shoreline Aquatic Park, Pine Avenue and Shoreline Drive, Long Beach, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today. Proceeds go to Long Beach charities.
PICKING NEW JURORS: Jury selection begins at 9 a.m. Monday in the re-trial of Ray Buckey, charged with molesting students at his family’s now closed Manhattan Beach preschool. The case will be heard in Los Angeles Superior Court, Department 111.
VOTING: Voters will go to the polls Tuesday in 57 cities to decide issues ranging from Latino representation on city councils, building heights and property taxes to the jurisdiction over sewer systems. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in some communities; from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. in others.
ANGRY PARENTS: Compton parents plan to show up at the Compton School Board’s regular meeting at 6:30 Tuesday night to demand sweeping reforms in curriculum and physical facilities.
