Voters will go to the polls in Orange County on Tuesday. In the 31st Senate District--which includes Brea, Yorba Linda, a large section of southeast Orange County including El Toro, Mission Viejo and Laguna Niguel, as well as parts of Los Angeles County--voters will choose a replacement for former state Sen. William Campbell (R-Hacienda Heights).

The field has been whittled down to three candidates: Assemblyman Frank Hill (R-Whittier), Democratic candidate Janice Graham and American Independent Party candidate Robert Lewis. There are 386,579 registered voters in the district; 52% of them are in Orange County, and 54% are registered Republicans.

Tustin residents will choose three people to fill seats on the City Council in an election that almost wasn’t. A Superior Court ruling on April 2 cleared the way for the vote after two council members filed suit in March asking that the courts overturn an ordinance moving the election from November to April. There are eight candidates: Carole Bryant, John Norman Butler, incumbent John Kelly, Berklee A. Maughan, Dennie E. Pederson, Jim Potts, Leslie Ann Pontious and Charles E. Puckett.

Also on Tuesday, voters in San Juan Capistrano will decide on a $21-million park bond measure. If approved, Measure D would result in an increase in property taxes to preserve up to 140 acres near Camino Capistrano and Junipero Serra Road from any future development. The land would be converted into park space, playing fields, stables and a community center.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. in all areas.
