State Publishes Booklet on Community Associations
The California Department of Real Estate has published a booklet about community association living entitled “Common Interest Development Brochure.”
The 16-page brochure, produced by the Community Assns. Institute Research Foundation, explains the social, political and financial elements that constitute a community association.
The booklet contains information about the relevant California civil codes relating to common-interest developments such as condominiums, planned unit developments, real estate stock cooperatives and “own-your-own” community apartment projects.
In California, there are about 16,000 common-interest developments. The brochure reviews the various types of developments as defined under the California law, explains the powers and duties of the boards of directors and the individual owners, the funding options available and basic information about operating a budget for such organizations.
Free copies of the brochure may be obtained by writing to: Book Orders, Department of Real Estate, P.O. Box 187006, Sacramento, Calif. 95818-7006.
