Hank Gathers
In response to “Hank’s Spirit a Lesson for Loyola Students,” Part B, March 25:
Your article touched my heart, as his death touched many lives. Unfortunately, I never met Hank Gathers, but it sounds like the squad’s emotional and top-scoring player was needed elsewhere. I pray that when my time comes that I will be doing what I “love” as Hank was doing.
To the students at Loyola: Whether you won or lost is immaterial. You have won the best trophy of all, your love of one another.
I wish that I would have had your insight 20 years ago. Someone I loved was also taken just as quickly, but I handled the grief in a different manner. So I rejoice with you in spirit, for you are truly a school of destiny.
