Pfeifer Falls, but Wins Pro Ski Title
Roland Pfeifer of Austria overcame a fall in the first run to win Sunday’s slalom at Aspen, Colo., giving him a victory in the final round of the Plymouth Super Series and the overall championship in the U.S. Pro Ski Tour.
Winning the overall U.S. Pro Tour with 594 points earned Pfeifer $221,816 and a new car. Included in that figure was a $100,000 bonus for also winning the Plymouth Super Series plus another new car.
The only American in contention for the Super Series title was Phil Mahre. He got caught in a gate against Norway’s Torjas Berge. Mahre tried to make up time in the second run but skied out of the course.
