P.M. BRIEFING : Aussie Ford Plans Improvement

Ford Motor Co. of Australia, the country’s biggest car maker, said today that it plans to spend $916 million over the next five years to improve its products and factories.

The announcement coincided with a slide in the company’s net profit to $94.7 million in calendar 1989 from $96 million the previous year, even though the number of new cars sold increased more than 16% to 159,145.
