P.M. BRIEFING : Soviets Buy More U.S. Wheat
From Times Wire Services
WASHINGTON — The Soviet Union has bought an additional 125,000 metric tons of U.S. wheat at subsidized prices for delivery through mid-May, the Agriculture Department said today.
The sale, according to USDA records, was the first since Jan. 19, when the Soviet Union’s authority for buying U.S. subsidized wheat was virtually exhausted.
A new allocation of 1 million tons was announced Feb. 23; about 12,950 tons were left over from a previous allocation.
