THE SIDELINES : Buyers Beware, FBI Warns
PITTSBURGH — The FBI today advised collectors to be careful when buying old baseball uniforms as agents continued to investigate the theft of memorabilia from James (Cool Papa) Bell, one of the all-time greats of the former Negro Leagues.
Some of the stolen items--which include photographs, baseball equipment and uniforms--were recovered when Robert D. Retort, 38, and Ed Grybowski, 65, were arrested Friday.
Three uniforms still were missing today, according to FBI spokesman Jeff Kimball. The uniforms were from the St. Louis Stars, Kansas City Monarchs and Memphis Red Socks.
