Murphy Wins One: Eddie Murphy, his production company, and Paramount Pictures won a victory when a Los Angeles Superior Court judge dismissed a lawsuit over the movie “Coming to America.” The suit was filed by Lassine Osseni-Bellow, who claimed that Murphy and others used his story idea to produce a film about an African prince coming to America. Judge Philip Saeta threw the case out when Osseni-Bellow failed to appear at a hearing. The suit was not related to the celebrated action over “Coming to America” by columnist Art Buchwald, who successfully made similar claims against Murphy and the studio.
