TV Reviews : ’13 East’ Falters With Witless Humor
Some pretty bad hospital comedies have littered TV through the years, but NBC’s “13 East” is the bedpan of the genre. When tonight’s premiere (8:30 on Channels 4, 36 and 39) ends, your first inclination is to empty it.
The action, so to speak, revolves around a hospital ward dominated by head nurse Maggy Poole (Diana Bellamy). The opening plot has Poole and a former boyfriend renewing their romance when he turns up in her ward as a patient.
The resulting humor--a brain tumor is involved--is utterly witless. And so are the characters. Enough said. How does something like this even get on the air?
