Earth Day Events at University
Earth Day 1990, which falls on April 22, is being celebrated in a myriad of ways around Southern California this week. Here are some of the highlights in the Southeast; most are free to the public except where a minimal fee is noted. For information on other events, check with your local city hall or college campuses.
Long Beach:
Earth Week activities Monday through April 22 at Cal State Long Beach, 1250 Bellflower Blvd.: Environmental speakers forum, tree planting and American Indian earth rituals, lecture by Huntington Beach Mayor Thomas J. Mays on effects of the American Trader oil spill, and more, culminating in a campus fair from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. April 22. For more information, call Student Services: (213) 985-5205.
At El Dorado Park, West Studebaker Road between Willow and Stearns streets: An Earth Day Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 22, with exhibits, children’s art, tree planting and stories. There also will be activities at the El Dorado Nature Center.
Los Angeles:
On Saturday, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., in each of L.A.’s 15 City Council districts: “Operation Clean Sweep,” a citywide cleanup event with more than 1,000 anti-graffiti volunteers. To participate, call 237-1797.
