WORLD : Soviet Satellite Addition Delayed
MOSCOW — Computer problems have forced the Soviet Union to delay by two more months the already-postponed launching of the latest addition to the Mir space station, the Glavkosmos space agency said today.
It is the third delay of the newest Mir module, or space station building block. Originally scheduled for March 30, the launch was put off until April 9, then until April 19. Today, Glavkosmos spokesman Nikolai Semenov said the launch is now scheduled for June.
“The problem is connected with software on the Mir station,” where the new module is intended to develop materials for industrial use, said Semenov. “We thought we had better wait and get to the bottom of the problem.”
