WORLD : Food Poisoning Kills 80 in India
LUCKNOW, India — At least 80 people died of food poisoning and more than 125 others were hospitalized after a village feast to celebrate a marriage engagement, United News of India reported today.
The tilak ceremony was held Sunday night in Raipura Jungla village near Lucknow, capital of the northern state of Uttar Pradesh. During the ceremony, engaged couples exchange rings and feast with their families. A tilak is a decorative dot many Indians, especially Hindus, wear on their foreheads for auspicious occasions.
UNI did not say which food caused the deaths nor did it say whether the engaged couple were among the victims.
