SHORT TAKES : Democrats to Rock for Funds
WASHINGTON — Rock concerts, of late, have benefited earthquake victims, AIDS research and the environment. So why not the Democrats?
Party activist and fund-raiser Pamela Harriman has brought in Lorne Michaels, executive producer of “Saturday Night Live,” to produce a June 20 benefit: “Democrats: The Party of the Decade.”
For the event, designed as a star-studded evening in the Kennedy Center to raise a pile of money for upcoming Senate races, Michaels is reportedly already talking with various rock groups and performers. Crosby, Stills & Nash and Dana Carvey, the “Church Lady” of “Saturday Night Live,” reportedly have already agreed to perform.
