NATION : Frank, Investigated for Hiring Male Prostitute, to Run Again
NEWTON, Mass. — Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) announced today that he will run for reelection even though the House Ethics Committee has yet to rule on its investigation into his hiring a male prostitute.
Frank, who represents the 4th Congressional District of Massachusetts, said that with the May 8 deadline for filing nomination papers approaching, he decided to make the announcement now rather than wait for the conclusion of the investigation.
The committee is investigating Frank’s hiring of male prostitute Stephen Gobie. Last summer Gobie, 34, revealed that he had been a sexual partner of Frank from 1985 until 1987. Frank acknowledged that he initially paid Gobie for sex and then hired him as a personal assistant paid with Frank’s own money.
Frank said he “looked forward” to discussing the committee report when it is announced.
Gobie alleged that he operated a prostitution ring from Frank’s Capitol Hill apartment with the congressman’s knowledge. Frank, however, denied knowing about the business.
