THE SIDELINES : Thompson Drops Out of Iowa U.

IOWA CITY, Iowa —  Basketball player Ray Thompson, a promising sophomore who was suspended from the team three times for academic and legal problems, has left school, it was disclosed today.

Thompson dropped his classes at the university last week and has returned to his home in the Chicago area. His departure was reported by the Cedar Rapids Gazette and confirmed today by Iowa coach Tom Davis.
